Georgia Kaufmann ist im Norden Londons geboren und aufgewachsen. Sie studierte Sozialanthropologie und Demografie in Cambridge, Oxford und an der London School of Economics.
Den Großteil ihrer Zwanziger- und frühen Dreißigerjahre verbrachte sie in anderen Städten. Dabei zeigte sie eine Vorliebe für Orte, die mit einem B beginnen: Brüssel, Belo Horizonte (Brasilien), Brighton und Boston, um nur ein paar aufzuzählen.
Seit 1995 lebt sie in London und tauschte ihre Karriere als Anthropologin gegen die Erziehung ihrer Kinder und das Schreiben ein. Sie lebt mit ihrem Mann, ihrer Katze und einer Waschmaschine, um ihre erwachsenen Töchter nach Hause zu locken, in der Nähe des Londoner Zentrums.
